Pressure Calculator (Force / Area)

Pressure converter: psi, bar, atm, Pa, kPa, MPa, mmHg, Torr and inHg, for tires, gases, weather and vacuum work.

p = FA

How to use this calculator

  1. Choose the quantity you want under “Solve for”.
  2. Type the known values and pick their units: any combination works.
  3. The result updates as you type. Open “Show the steps” to see the substitution.

Convert pressure between SI units (pascal and its multiples), bar, standard atmospheres, millimeters of mercury, torr, psi and inches of mercury.

One standard atmosphere is exactly 101,325 Pa = 760 Torr. A bar (100,000 Pa) is slightly less than an atmosphere. Tire gauges in the US read psi above atmospheric pressure (gauge pressure).

Worked example

Given: F = 500 N · A = 0.25 m²

p = FA

Result: p = 2 000 Pa

Frequently asked questions

How many psi is 1 bar?

1 bar = 14.5038 psi.

Is mmHg the same as Torr?

Almost: 1 mmHg = 1.000000142 Torr. The difference is negligible outside metrology.
